You've asked for it and we're giving it to you. Classes to help improve the quality of life in your community and skills that you can apply in other aspects of your life. June 14,2009 Starting a Community Garden/ Taking Care of Plant and Flowers Would you like to make your neighborhood more safe and beautiful? Do you want to learn more about gardening practices? Come learn a unique and successful set of tools to create community gardens and build strong relationships with your neighbors. Gardening also offers physical and mental health benefits. This information is good for home gardens as well. July 12, 2009 Making Compost Compost is the end product of the decomposition of organic matter. It is used to increase the quality of soil in a garden. It help plants grow better and gives food more nutritional value. This workshop will teach what items go into a compost bin. You will build a compost bin during this workshop that you can take home. August 9, 2009 Identifying Weeds and Invasives Weeds take over your garden and not only compromise the appearance of your garden but also the health. This workshop will teach you how to identify and effectively remove weeds and invasive plants. June 20-August 15 Beginning on Saturday, June 20, 2009, Friends of the Woods will host "The Third Saturday New Skills Series"

June 20, 2009 Event Planning This course will give you a great basic understanding of event planning. It will also explain some of the details of how the business works and what an event planner actually does. Lastly, it will give you the basics to help get you started in this exciting, rewarding and often fun filled career. July 18, 2009 Grant Research This course will provide those with some familiarity and novices with an understanding of government, private and corporate funding including how to research grants. Included will be a detailed discussion of where to look for information and public sources of information on grants. By the end of the workshop every attendee will be able to successfully seek funding. August 15, 2009 Starting a Business or Group Do you have an idea for a business or group? Do you want to learn the steps it takes to make your business a success? If you answered yes to any of these questions, this workshop is for you. Starting a small business requires determination, motivation, and know-how. This course is designed to give you the information needed to research, plan and start a business.
